Chardonnay : a Profile

Chardonnay is a white grape that produces wine that ranges from bone dry to off-dry in sweetness.

Acid ranges from moderate to high and can feel rounded or sharp.

It is almost always medium to medium plus in body, but some that contain higher alcohol levels can be full bodied. These are usually warmer weather styles from areas such as Napa.

Alcohol usually falls between 12.5% and 14.3%.

Chardonnay is not an aromatic grape. Lemon, apple, pear, pineapple, cream, vanilla, and butter are common notes. This grape is known for reflecting the characteristics of the winemaking technique and growing region rather than of the grape itself.

Blends with: Pinot Noir & Pinot Meunier for Champagne, Chenin Blanc in the Loire Valley, and Sauvignon Blanc and Viognier for many different other styles. But great on its own!
