2016 Sebastiani Malbec, Alexander Valley
Let’s switch away from pricey but worth-it whites (Decembers’s Bergström’s Sigrid Chardonnay) and from the oh-so-famous Jamie Slone 2014 Pinot Noir (a longstanding favorite) to a versatile, medium bodied, lovely Malbec for Winelala’s January Favorite of the Month.
The winemaker notes the complexity and finesse, specifically calling out juicy raspberries, forest floor, and aromas of currant, spice and expresso oak. This is all completely accurate (after all, the person who made it wrote that) but what I like is that it’s not overwhelmingly intense. You get to enjoy the layers and interchange, but note the word ‘finesse’. This wine is elegant and playful rather than mouth-staining and powerful. A great drinker with or without food. This is not a sponsored link, it is a wine that I found on one of my journeys that I’m totally confident to recommend to a broad base.
